Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper / Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, processing payments, and assisting with financial reporting. This role requires a strong background in accounting principles, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
Maintain and update financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger / journal entries.
Reconcile bank statements and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
Process payments, invoices, and expense reports in a timely manner.
Customer set up & daily invoicing.
Prepare & process payroll (cover for payroll officer on leave).
Prepare and submit monthly financial reports to management.
Prepare and submit periodic BAS, Coinvest, Super (via CBUS clearing house), State Payroll Tax, Workcover, and TPAR submissions and reconciliations.
Update Accounting Software (Reckon Desktop) when required for new tax rates, Superannuation, and bug fixes.
Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
Monitor cash flow and assist in cash management.
Conduct periodic audits of financial data to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Collaborate with other departments to gather financial information and resolve discrepancies.
Stay updated on accounting regulations and best practices to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Handle any other financial tasks or projects as assigned by management.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (preferred).
Proven experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar role.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Reckon, MYOB, QuickBooks, Xero) and MS Office Suite.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial data as well as excellent MS Office (Excel) skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
Nice to have
Exposure to the construction industry / plumbing.
Understanding of Coinvest / Leave Plus calculations, submissions, and reconciliation.
Familiarity with Reckon Premier Accounts and its upkeep.
Payroll tax construction, including allowances for exempt employees (e.g., recommencing apprentices).
