Reports to:Vicky Ong - Island Accounting ManagerDirect Reports:None but is expected to provide supervisory support to other staff in Finance and WarehouseRevision:V001Date:March 2024Purpose of this Role:To carry out accounting procedures which includes processing, reconciling and reporting of financial information of the mining business in PRL Group. The ability to provide financial information, analysis and insights will also support the Island Accounting Manager, ensuring the efficient and effective operations of the Christmas Island Finance Department.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the Finance & Warehouse functions
- Provide support to the management team in budgeting, analysis and reporting.
- Review and manage fortnightly payroll.
- Maintaining fixed asset register including CWIP accounts.
- Analysing operational costs and interacting with site management to understand financial data.
- Engaging with other Finance and Warehouse staff on a regular basis to provide supervisory support.
- Prepare, review and analyse operations monthly results including variance analysis and commentary on variances.
- Month end procedures Preparing monthly P&L's, Balance Sheet and GL reconciliations.
- Assisting with preparing Fringe Benefits Tax Returns.
- Assist with preparing and updating accounting manuals, policies and procedures.
- Provide systems support to users of the Finance system.
Typical Tasks Required
- Assisting with transactional processing to ensure accounting entries, internal allocation journals, accrual entries and other adjustments have been posted within month-end timeframes.
- Assist staff with creditors, debtors & payroll functions.
- Assisting with reviewing income and expenses for incorrect posting.
- Assisting with annual budget.
- Assisting with implementing and/or maintaining accounting systems.
- Creating and improving accounting processes.
- Liaising with External Authorities such as Auditors or Tax Accountant on audit and/or tax queries.
- Assisting with other accounting and administrative tasks including adhoc projects as directed by the Island Accounting Manager and others.
- Relieve other Finance staff.
Key Safety Actions:
- Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety Act 2020, Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022, Safety and Health policy, Environmental Management Plan and Company policies and procedures. To be updated to Worksafe.
- Develop and implement a management system incorporating safety and risk management procedures and ensure employees are trained and assessed to competently perform their role.
- Ensure system in place for regular review and maintenance of safety and risk management procedures and tools.
- Demonstrate duty of care by working in a manner that does not endanger self or any other person.
- Lead the teams in carrying out all tasks using safety and risk management procedures and complying with all Company policies and procedures.
- Report safety or environmental hazards and incidents to your Line Manager and respond effectively when team members report hazards and incidents to you.
- Communicate all relevant information to all employees prior to start of shift and throughout shift. Ensure this is communicated to other leading hands or supervisors prior to leaving duty.
Qualifications required to perform this role:
- Bachelor of Commerce or Business (Accounting) or equivalent
- Chartered Accountants or Certified Practicing Accountants qualified
- 'C' Class Drivers' License or equivalent.

- Ability to relocate to Christmas Island as role is based on site
- Minimum 4-5 years post graduate experience, preferable in Commercial environment
- Good communication skills and strong organisational skills
- Competent working with Microsoft Office software, with strong proficiency in Excel
- Demonstrated ability to follow safety and risk management procedures
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload, manage timeframes and show a high level of attention to detail
- Experience in preparing reports, presentations and correspondence
- Exposure to Pronto ERP system and Mex Maintenance system would be an advantage.
