As a Junior Accountant at Fresh Start, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission to transform lives affected by addiction. You will work closely with the finance team to ensure accurate financial records and contribute to the overall financial health of the organisation.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Fresh Start is seeking an ambitious, driven, and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join their team full-time. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this person will be an effective member of the Fresh Start team, with the primary responsibility of assisting the Accountant to manage the organisation’s finances.
The key responsibilities include:
- Assist the Finance Manager with finances, financial records and reporting
- Prepare quarterly financial reports for the CEO and Board
- Manage finances according to Australian Accounting Standards
- Handle tax-related matters and liaise with the Auditor and Tax Office
- Oversee accounts, payables and receivables and support the Debtor's team
- Perform day-end reconciliations and banking
- Assist in the management of insurance requirements, organisation’s vehicles, equipment and ICT
- Prepare and process employment contracts and terminations
- Maintain HR records and handle payroll-related transactions and obligations
- Ensure compliance with relevant awards and legislation
- Participate in professional development and performance appraisal

ABOUT YOU
Ideal Skills
Have:
- A formal qualification in accounting, finance or related field
- Previous experience (minimum 2 - 3 years) in a similar role
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
- Proficient in accounting software (MYOB) and advanced level in Microsoft Office (particularly EXCEL)
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Individuals who are self-motivated, reliable, hardworking and with initiative
- Experience in the delivery of financial planning and reporting is highly desirable
- Respect for confidentiality
- Willingness to support Fresh Start’s Christian approach and programmes
Ability to:
- Work both independently and as part of a team while being proactive and showing initiative
- Work autonomously
- Ability to support and mentor the finance team when required
- Prioritise and consistently meet deadlines
