Job description

Junior Accountant / Assistant

  • Office based in Bella Vista
  • On-site job, parking provided
  • Family owned and run 
  • Part-time – 3 days per week, at a minimum
  • 9am – 5pm (with some flexibility)

The Company

Our family owned and operated accounting firm is looking to grow. Operating for over 30 years in the hill district – we are at the forefront of the industry. Our services range from general accounting, self-managed superannuation fund advice and management, tax law advice amongst many other things.

The Position

We are seeking a driven Junior Accountant to join our team, with the desire to learn and assist with all accounting & administration tasks to support our team of 3 senior accountants.

This role is well-suited for a student currently studying, and is looking for a part-time role with potential to transition into a full-time role.

A pre-existing knowledge and experience in an accounting practice is a must.

In this role, you will be an all-rounder! Your job will consist of general receptionist duties and office management, as well as accounting tasks such as preparing business activity statements, ASIC annual reviews, excel reporting, and assisting with preparation of compliance documents.

We have well defined processes and procedures in place to ensure a smooth transition into the role, and we provide ongoing support and training as you grow into the position.

High level customer service is essential. You will be the first point of contact; answering calls and greeting clients as they come into the office for meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • meeting and greeting clients as they come in
  • processing mail; both digitally and paper mail
  • answering, screening and directing phone calls, including emailing correspondence
  • assisting Senior Accountants with their work as required
  • preparing Business Activity Statements and Instalment Activity Statements
  • inputting data in accounting programs such as Xero (XPM) & MYOB
  • preparing excel reports as required
  • preparing ASIC annual reviews
  • updating and maintaining client records in software programs such as BGL360, Outlook & Xero
  • general office administration & management support
  • liaising with the ATO and other government bodies on behalf of clients
  • preparation of documents to be sent to clients
  • maintaining and ordering office stationery
  • booking meetings and ensuring office is always clean & tidy
  • scanning and filing office documents
  • other adhoc duties as required.

About the applicant

  • A degree in Accounting, or currently studying
  • Proficiency in MS Office, with emphasis on Excel & Word
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero & MYOB
  • Excellent customer service & great attention to detail
  • Must present high level organisational skills
  • Prior experience in accounting or bookkeeping is preferred
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, and positive attitude
