Laboratory Technical Assistant

In summary, the Laboratory Technical Assistant is responsible for: 

• Assisting the Senior Laboratory Technician in the efficient operation of the winery laboratory 
• Daily duties include routine analyses and managing analysis requests from winemakers 
• If required, act as back up to senior technician in laboratory consumable ordering and organisation of laboratory 
• Equipment calibration and troubleshooting 
• Training of vintage or laboratory new staff 
• Shift work required during vintage. 
• Sampling and conducting a variety of different laboratory tests – some of these include: Grape maturity analysis; sugars; sulphurs; volatile acidity; pH and total acidity; Dissolved oxygen (DO); carbon dioxide and alcohol and Fermentation sample collection and analysis 

To be successful in for these roles you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

• Minimum 1-2 Years’ experience in Laboratory Environment
• Familiarity with current laboratory technologies and equipment
• Experience in a customer service driven environment
• Intermediate computer skills with a sound understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite of applications
• Ability to take initiative in interpreting analytical results and flag problems or potential quality concerns
• Time management skills – the ability to meet deadlines and operate oneself in an efficient manner
• The ability to self-manage and work autonomously and work in collaboration with a team

Desirable

• Certificate III or IV in Laboratory Techniques
• Qualification in chemistry, food science or related discipline
• Degree in Chemistry or Food Sciences
• Problem-solving abilities that reflect a positive and consultative approach
• Experience in the Wine Industry or Food / Beverage or Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Industries
