Research and undergraduate and postgraduate education in the School span the fields of: human, microbial and plant biochemistry; chemical and Molecular Biology; systems biology; molecular genetics; 'omics technologies; synthetic biology; chemistry; materials; and nanotechnologies. The School has a strong PhD cohort supported by successful, externally funded research programmes. Collaborations exist with national and international universities, industry, hospitals, and community stakeholders, generating high quality publications, patents, and spin-out companies.The School currently has 26 academic staff, who together offer experience in teaching and research in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics and Chemistry. Teaching in the School is further supported by a dedicated and experienced group of technical and administrative staff.About the opportunityIn this position, you will undertake teaching and independent research in an area related to the core disciplines of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and/or Genetics. You will develop a vibrant research program supported by nationally competitive grant funding and/or industry engagement, and attracting and supervising Honours, Masters and PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. You will deliver high-quality face-to-face and online teaching sessions and effective coordination of teaching and learning activities across the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and/or Genetics curricula.You will be supported to develop your career through a generous start-up package, formal mentoring arrangements, peer observation of teaching, and professional development opportunities in both research and teaching activities.About youYou will be a collaboratively-minded colleague, and an enthusiastic educator committed to developing skills demonstrating teaching excellence. You will have a strong focus on the student experience, through the delivery of quality face-to-face and on-line teaching sessions and effective coordination of teaching and learning activities across the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and/or Genetics curricula.To be considered for this opportunity, you will have:
  • A PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, another academic field relevant to the discipline or other appropriate higher professional qualification
  • A demonstrable track record of excellence in research evidenced by peer-reviewed journal articles published in high quality journals, relative to opportunity
  • A demonstrable emerging track record of competitive funding success, relative to opportunity
  • Demonstrate evidence of successful supervision or co-supervision of HDR students, relative to opportunity
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, and motivation for team success
  • Capability to deliver and coordinate effective teaching, including research-based training, to large student cohorts and develop assessment and other materials for units and courses, including online resources
  • Experience with, or willingness to, gain competency in learning management software and electronic learning environments
