About the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training:

Headquartered at Flinders University, the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training is a collective of world-leading groundwater scientist and educators from our partner universities, government, and industry organisations. As an institution of national and international standing, we are fostering collaboration to continually advance knowledge and management of Australia's groundwater resources and to train the next generation of groundwater researchers. We are now seeking a Lecturer in Hydrogeology to join Flinders University to contribute to both groundwater hydrology education and research!


About the Role

The College of Science and Engineering is seeking a Lecturer in Hydrogeology to contribute to the quality research, planning and delivery of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching, and to short course training to external industry delegates in the hydrogeology discipline.

The teaching component will focus on the development of innovative and inspiring teaching materials and multi-mode teaching delivery, including face to face, online and other contemporary teaching and learning strategies, whilst ensuring that you enhance student experiences and support students with any academic challenges. You will alsomake independent high-quality contributions to research through activities such as quality publications, external grant acquisition and research student supervision.

To be successful as the Lecturer in Hydrogeology, you will:

  • Contribute to the organisation, planning, delivery and evaluation of undergraduate and/or postgraduate topics in the BSc Environmental Science and the postgraduate courses "Groundwater Hydrology" and "Water Resources Management".
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships and networks with a range of stakeholders including industry and professional associations and organisations.
  • Design, develop and deliver external professional development courses for the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT) industry training program in consultation with the Centre Director.

Relocation and Visa support is available for the successful candidate.

About You

As the Lecturer in Hydrogeology, you will have sound technical skills in numerical flow and/or transport modelling and experience in scientific programming. You will strive to grow the reputation of research in Hydrogeology and demonstrate a student-focused approach to maximise learning outcomes. You will have excellent communication skills to establish and uphold positive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate:

  • Completion of a PhD in Water Resources Engineering, Groundwater, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources or an equivalent qualification.
  • The ability to undertake high quality teaching in a tertiary environment, including involvement in topic development and coordination.
  • Evidence of a strong research track record (for career stage) in an area aligned with research strengths in Hydrogeology, including evidence of quality publications and ability to attract external competitive grants.
