About the role
The Legal Counsel will act as a trusted, strategic, and commercial advisor, providing legal advice services to our client and its associated entities. Reporting to the Head of Legal, Risk, and Governance, this role involves collegiate participation in the legal community of practice and providing operational legal advice in areas such as corporate, commercial, and media contracts.
Key Position Responsibilities:
- Active participation in the legal community of practice.
- Provide operational legal advice on corporate, commercial, and media contracts.
- Provide legal advice and drafting services on various matters, including legal processes, contracts, commercial and business law, consumer law, privacy law, freedom of information, intellectual property law, Racing Act 1958, and Gambling Regulation Act 2003.
- Research and provide legal, risk, and governance policy advice on legislation and public sector policy matters.
- Lead and deliver projects, ensuring key performance indicators are achieved.
- Foster collaborative and trusted relationships across the organization and with key stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of contemporary legal, risk, and governance policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant authorities, standards, policies, and practices.
- Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and admitted to legal practice in Victoria with a current practicing certificate.
- Demonstrable skills in drafting legal documents, preparing briefs, and assessing evidentiary materials in legal proceedings.
- Proven engagement and relationship-building skills with the ability to represent the organization effectively.
- Excellent consultation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
