This is a permanent, full-time vacancy.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Legislation & Project Support Officer is an essential position that forms part of the State Administrative Tribunal’s Legislation and Policy Team. This position reports to the Senior Legislation and Policy Officer and directly supports the Executive Officer, Deputy Presidents, and the President of the Tribunal with conferrals of new Jurisdiction, legislative and administrative projects, stakeholder conferrals, business improvement initiatives, external education, and freedom of information requests.

Additionally, this position undertakes critical research on behalf of the President, Executive Manager and Tribunal as directed by, and under the supervision of, the Senior Legislative Policy Officer to spearhead new initiatives, improve communications with stakeholders and ensure the smooth running of the Tribunal.

As part of the Legislation and Policy Team, the successful applicant will be expected to:

Legislative Support

  • Manage and organise the Legislation Team’s email inbox, and alert the Senior Legislative Policy Officer to legislative reform, amendments, or draft Bills.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders and agencies in regard to requests for consultation, and proclamation dates for legislation conferring jurisdiction onto the Tribunal and update the Legislation team diary and database accordingly.
  • Monitor the parliament sitting calendar, the introduction of Bills, and Government Gazettes in order to investigate and report on any new, or amendments to, conferral of jurisdiction onto the Tribunal.
  • Provide legislative assistance and advice to the President of the Tribunal and the Executive Manager, under the direction of the Senior Legislative Policy Officer.
  • Maintain knowledge of current legal principles relating to the Tribunal.

Project and Tribunal Support

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a variety of projects, including business improvement initiatives.
  • Undertake quantitative and qualitative research, including legal research, and analysis of information and data and reporting results.
  • Provide support to specified Tribunal Committees, ensuring prompt attention to action and follow up items as directed.
  • Undertake special projects, proof reading, research, analysis, preparation of draft papers / reports and other duties as directed by the Senior Legislative Policy Officer, Executive Manager, and President, and their progress as and when directed.

Stakeholder Relationship Support

  • Liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including organising and coordinating arrangements for external visitors to the Tribunal.
  • Prepare draft responses and coordinates Tribunal responses (such as responses to complaints, Ministerials, and legislative consults), ensuring the input of all relevant stakeholders, including the President of the Tribunal.
  • Assist with meetings, prepares agendas and papers for meetings including recording, maintaining, distributing minutes, and any subsequent action items.
  • Conduct other duties as required in accordance with strategic objectives, business plans, local workload priorities and performance management plans.

On occasion the incumbent may be required to perform relieving duties in other positions.
