Job Description:
As a Liaison Officer - Communities at Fair Game, you will be pivotal in fostering positive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, families, and individuals. Working closely with our health promotion outreach team, you will contribute to activities promoting community engagement and facilitating culturally appropriate initiatives. This exciting new role will allow the candidate to enhance Fair Game’s relationships with communities across the state and better meet community needs. The successful applicant will get the opportunity to travel to some of WA’s most remote communities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Stakeholder engagement in communities Fair Game delivers programs to ensure cultural responsiveness and community needs are met.
2. Provide cultural leadership and advice to the project team to support relationship-building with community members and organisations.
3. Assist in obtaining approval for projects involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
4. Support the planning and management of data collection and entry processes.
5. Visit community groups to promote Fair Game's projects and share Fair Game's programs effectively.
6. Facilitate yarning circles and community gatherings, ensuring adherence to cultural protocols and gender-specific considerations.
Requirements:
- Passion for working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families and improving mental health outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience in providing health information or working with Indigenous communities in a culturally appropriate manner.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at various levels.
- Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Respectful attitude towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally diverse groups, and gender-diverse individuals.
- Community engagement experience is essential.
- Experience in regional communities is desirable.
- Experience working with children is desirable but not essential.
