Laverton P-12 College resides within the western suburbs of Melbourne in the local area of Hobson's Bay. The College is a merged school operating on the site of the former Laverton Secondary College. It opened in 2008 with new buildings first occupied in 2009, however, it was not until mid-2011 that all levels of the College were operational. The school is comprised of seven permanent buildings and two relocatable buildings, providing a range of specialised learning spaces, including a gymnasium, performing arts centre, instrumental music rooms, a state of the art food technology kitchen and cafe, practical science rooms, technology and engineering spaces, and a well-resourced College library. The College has also prioritised developing the grounds including, building a sports field, volleyball court and an undercover multipurpose field. Laverton P-12 College is modern, well- resourced and inviting school.
In 2024, the College has an enrolment of over 700 students across Foundation to Year 12. The community comprises of diverse family backgrounds, with 48% of students speaking languages other than English at home and a high proportion of students coming from the Karen, Pacific Islander and Middle Eastern communities. The College Student Family Occupation (SFO) of .74 indicates a high number of students come from disadvantaged economic backgrounds. While the Student Family Occupation and Education (SFOE) is slightly lower at 0.66, indicating higher circumstances known to make a difference in student learning. The college is supported in 2023 by the Differentiated School Support Initiative.
The College staffing profile consists of approximately 100 full time and part time equivalent staff; including 4 Principal class, 6 Leading Teachers, 3 Learning Specialists, 54 teachers, 28 Education Support Staff and 2 Paraprofessionals. The College has invested heavily in building the professional knowledge of our staff and working collaboratively in teams to support the needs of our students. All teachers plan within a structured Teaching and Learning Cycle and this is enhanced with teachers engaging in PLT Inquiry Cycles informed by student needs across cohorts.

3. 3 Demonstrated technical knowledge, expertise and proficiency in minor repairs and maintenance to the interior and exterior of buildings within a school environment. Skills in the use of tools/technical equipment as relevant to the position.
4. 4 The capacity to engage and liaise with contractors on the school site as required and manage minor projects and developments being mindful of OHS practices and protocols.
5. 5 Demonstrated ability to maintain a database system to track cyclic maintenance, repairs and contractors.
6. 6 Demonstrated ability to be flexible and work independently to maintain the school buildings and grounds.
Attendance may be required during school holiday periods which appropriate payment will be made.

Position Purpose
The Maintenance Officer Position¿s primary function at Laverton P-12 College is to assist in ensuring that the school¿s buildings and grounds are well maintained and presented and that all work undertaken complies with statutory obligations and Department Standards.
The Maintenance Assistant roll in the school community is to be able to communicate effectively and develop a good working relationship with staff members, students and contractors at all levels.
The Maintenance Assistant at the Laverton P-12 College will undertake personal development opportunities to enhance the position.
The Maintenance Assistant is required to work flexibly and reliably within tight timelines and with minimal direction in a team environment.
It is important the Maintenance Assistant operates in a professional, courteous, efficient manner at all times, respecting confidentiality.
The core role of the Maintenance & Grounds Officer may include but is not limited to:
· Assist with gardening and general grounds maintenance tasks as required
· Undertake general maintenance and minor building works
· Mowing as required
· Assist tradesperson working on site
· Checking the school grounds to ensure the grounds are safe
· Keep storage facilities clean, tidy and safe, including signage for OHS risks
· Working through a schedule of regular tasks and maintenance audits
· General setting up and packing away after major events
· General handyperson duties as directed
· Demonstrate the ability to work independently and also with minimum supervision within a team environment.
· A full Driver¿s Licence is required
· Attend meetings and Safety Inspections
· Assist with moving furniture
· Organisation of the schools Bus.
· Other work as directed by the Leadership Team
It should be noted that some heavy lifting maybe required in accordance with OH&S guidelines.
