About Us
The City of Whittlesea is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia. As a local government organisation, we play a pivotal role in the everyday lives of our community. Our vision is to make Whittlesea 2040: A Place For All by ensuring our residents can enjoy access to local services, facilities and infrastructure.

Our staff are passionate, skilled and diverse, providing a great environment to work in and succeed.

The Community Wellbeing Directorate promotes and enhances community wellbeing and social and cultural development through programs, service provision and social policy. In addition to the Director’s office, Departments include:

  • Community Strengthening
  • Creative Communities
  • Ageing Well
  • Children and Families
  • Active Places and Communities

The Role
The Manager Community Strengthening leads a Department focussed on services, programs and strategies which contribute to the health and wellbeing of the City of Whittlesea community, and support diversity and equality.

The role empowers a multi-disciplinary team, creating a positive, productive workplace culture and fostering a balance of strategic and operational thinking. The Manager mentors the team to be agile in response to emerging community needs while working towards evidence-based long-term goals.

The role is responsible for teams with the following portfolios:

  • Youth development
  • Health, equity and social planning
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Home and Community Care Program for Young People (HACC PYP)

The role is integral in fostering effective partnerships and collaborative practices with community organisations and government agencies to enable positive social change, particularly for disadvantaged and vulnerable communities.

The Manager Community Strengthening plays a key leadership role across the Directorate and organisation, contributing to the strategic and operational initiatives.

About you
The Community Wellbeing Directorate is in a period of transformation to ensure we stay ahead of the evolving needs of our community.  We’re looking for a Manager with an innovative mindset and experience in driving sustainable change within a team.

You have a talent for connection. As a leader you create an enabling environment where staff are empowered and you build relationships at all levels across an organisation. Externally, you have demonstrable experience in building and enhancing relationships with community organisations and other levels of government.

You’re passionate about making a positive difference for the community, but are also results orientated with financial acumen and political nous. You understand the need to balance community needs and expectations within the role of local government, budgetary and governance processes. You’re committed to continuous improvement.

Experience in local government community services would be beneficial, but more important is the capability to understand and lead the Community Strengthening Department to deliver outstanding results for the community.

You will be joining an experienced, passionate and cohesive Directorate leadership team. You’re committed to building strong, collaborative relationships with your peers and don’t shy away from constructive debate.
