The Department
The Nursing Workforce and Allocation Unit is based at Alfred Health and is comprised of a team of permanent staff/direct reports. This team manage a full/permanent part time unit of nursing staff (Nurse Pool), a casual nursing workforce (Nurse Bank) as well as a causal bank of administrative staff. This workforce supports organisational demand providing supplementary staff to both Alfred and Sandringham sites and community programs as required. This demand may include unplanned leave, planned leave, short term contracts, service expansion and/or health sector responses. The service provides advanced and just in time bookings.
Nursing workforce works in collaboration with the Allocations Unit, staffed 7 days a week. The allocations team support operations in the allocation of nursing resource to ensure service continuity.
The Caulfield Hospital site is supported by a Nursing Workforce manager and team.
Nursing Staff under the Nursing Workforce and Allocation unit consist of general, psychiatric and enrolled nurses, specialty trained nurse, clerical and administrative staff and patient attendants. This team also oversee relationships with external nursing agencies. The service provides workforce reports including data analysis and workforce profiling and supports the Nursing Workforce Strategic Plan for Alfred Health.
The Role
The Nurse Bank and Pool Manager is an important leadership role. It over sees and manages the Alfred Health Nursing Workforce and Allocations Unit. The role is critical in providing efficient and effective staffing solutions for clinical areas across the organisation, in replacing planned and unplanned vacancies with the use of permanent Nurse Pool, casual Nurse Bank and at time support services staff.
The Nurse Manager-Bank and Pool works closely with the Deputy Director of Nursing-Workforce Planning and Performance, the Organisational Operations team and the Nurse Managers across the organisation in delivering solutions to workforce challenges and supporting program level workforce strategic plans. They provide a consultancy service, as well as reporting on key metrics in relation to the nursing workforce.
Duties of the role include (but are not limited to):
- Manage the recruitment of Nurses and Support Services Staff to the Alfred Nurse Bank and Pool.
- Facilitate the development and growth of the Nurse Bank, Pool and Allocations teams
- Provide leadership and support to staffing managers within the organisation and liaise with external agencies as required.
- Accountable for ensuring Nurse Bank and Pool staff are appropriately qualified and credentialed in line with industrial and legislative requirements.
- Collaborates with key stakeholders to identify staffing priorities and challenges
- Provide leadership and guidance on workforce related IT systems such as Kronos, JDA and Ehub.
- Participates as an active member of the Nurse Manager workforce in meetings, forums and strategic planning
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Registered as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA.
- Post Graduate Degree in healthcare / business management or working towards same.
- Recent extensive clinical nursing experience in relevant health service.
- Demonstrated Leadership experience in Nursing Senior Management
- Familiar with Nursing Recruitment Models
- Demonstrated ability to develop, manage, implement and evaluate recruitment activities and models
- Current and satisfactory Police Check
- Current and satisfactory Working with Children Check
