About the role
In this role, you will drive the City's strategic direction by formulating and implementing an organisation-wide strategy, analysing performance data to advise leadership on sound decision-making, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the City adapts to evolving trends and achieves its long-term goals.

Work type: Temporary, full-time (18-month contract)
Classification: $187,437 base plus 11.5% superannuation

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development of the City’s Council Plan, Organisation Strategy, and key other key strategic documents to ensure integration and alignment, clear outcomes, actions and KPIs.
  • Leading the development of the City’s business model with specific regard to the Local Government Act. 
  • Overseeing the City’s integrated business planning cycle and the development and governance of the City’s service planning process.
  • Leading the development of an Integrated Transformation Strategy and Framework.
  • Overseeing the development of annual Directorate, Department, and Business Unit business plans within the timelines and framework of the business planning cycle.
  • Governing the City’s business plan development process to ensure effective planning considers capacity, capability, funding, and technology requirements.
  • Overseeing the establishment of the City’s Organisation KPIs, and the CEO Performance Plan.
  • Managing tracking of performance KPIs and reporting to provide strategic guidance and ensure quality and timely delivery of the organisation performance and legislated reports.
  • Taking accountability for the delivery of the City’s statutory and other corporate reporting requirements.
  • Leading the development, delivery and maintenance of the City’s Partnership Strategy and Strategic Partnerships Engagement Framework.
  • Leading the development, delivery, and maintenance of the City’s Innovation Strategy.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to the Strategy and Performance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.  
  • Leading the provision of expert advice to the Executive team and Senior Leaders regarding strategic planning, strategy development, business model optimisation, service reviews, innovation and data driven decision making.  

About you
To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated leadership skills to build and motivate a team as well as experience in managing senior stakeholders, coaching an executive team, and collaborating with others to pursue business goals.

Essential Experience:

  • Relevant qualification in a business, strategy, partnership management, business analytics, commerce or related discipline and extensive experience in a similar position.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead research, apply strategic thinking and develop rich insights to aid decision making.
  • Proven ability to challenge the status quo and manage change in a complex and often demanding work environment.
  • Proven ability to effectively facilitate workshops and conversations, and influence, negotiate and gain credibility with senior stakeholders to achieve support and strategic outcomes.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to build effective relationships and communicate with a diverse range of people internally and externally.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of research methods, tools, processes, and software to undertake projects.
  • Strong presentation skills, including experience with using technology/applications to present information and persuade.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple work priorities, deliver to project outcomes and to achieve results in challenging environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in working autonomously under broad direction, with performance being measured against the achievement of strategic goals and KPI's
