About the role:
You will participate in tasks that include the Mechanical Design of Trailers and their sub-assemblies. The design is typically done on Autodesk Inventor and the drawings prepared for the manufacturing process. As a drafter you will be responsible to add a Bill of Materials using the company numbering and naming convention. The data from the Bill of Materials will be used to populate the ERP System.
Key tasks will include but are not limited to:
· Create 3D models and drawings from customer specifications or through approved modifications to existing products.
· Liaise closely with sales and manufacturing staff to ensure the work is as per customer requirements and according to industry best practices.
· Technical assistance to production and fabrication as required.
· Filing of drawings and maintaining a professional library within the Vault.
· Participate in formal engineering reviews.
· Incorporate safety in design.
· Contribute to the continuous improvement of drafting and engineering practises.
To be successful in this role you must possess the following skills and abilities:
· Diploma or equivalent in Engineering / Drafting, or
· Mechanical trade with experience as a senior drafter.
· Ability to design for customer presentation, generating Bill of Materials, and detailing of manufacturing drawings.
· 2-3 years of experience in the use of 3D CAD software packages, preferably Inventor (Must know all the basic commands and the drawing representation).
· Experience in Heavy Transport Manufacturing industry & experience in using Autodesk Vault would be an advantage.
· Attention to detail and good record keeping is essential.
· Ability to estimate the required drafting hours for a specific design and manage time accordingly.
· Knowledge of manufacturing processes will be an advantage.
· Capable of keeping customer specifications, safety in design and manufacturing cost in mind during the design process.
· Proficient in Outlook, Teams & other Microsoft Applications.
· Excellent safety awareness.
· Initiative to act beyond specific job responsibilities and within company policy to achieve objectives.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work cooperatively with other team members to achieve team goals and maintain a harmonious team environment.
