Mobicon Systems is based in Brendale, QLD, and designs and builds unique lightweight straddle carriers for handling shipping containers within the Logistics Industry.
We have machines moving containers for clients around the world, including the likes of the US Navy, Australian Border Force, Fonterra, Linfox, and Mainfreight.
We are in the process of converting our product range to battery electric power train as part of our strategy to move away from reliance on diesel driven machinery.
About the role
We require a Mechatronics Engineer who can assist our principal engineer in tasks relating to research, development, design, and manufacture of our straddle carriers. This includes improvements to our existing designs, development of new products, and design and implementation of custom features requested by our clients.
The role will include infrequent travel to supplier and client sites in Australia and around the world. We offer an attractive travel bonus while travelling.
The main tasks of the position will be:
- Writing functional PLC code for our machines in Codesys.
- Electrical circuit and harness design changes and improvements in AutoCAD and Solidworks.
- Liasing with electrical suppliers and harness manufacturers.
- Supervision and QC of external and internal electrical harness manufacturing.
- Testing and commissioning of electrical installations on new machines.
- Troubleshooting electrical or control issues that arise on site.
- Take the lead on the transition of our straddle carriers from diesel power to battery electric.
- Ensuring modelling and drawing standards and procedures are maintained and continuously improved.
- Active participation in design meetings, offering technical advice to management and the sales team on potential design modifications.
- Upkeep of machine manuals and work procedures.

Desired skills and experience
Mechatronics Engineer
- 3-7 years of experience.
- Mechatronics engineering degree, or mechanical engineering with experience in control system design.
- Experience writing functional software in Codesys.
- An understanding of relay logic and automotive electrical systems.
- Experience designing of control systems relating to hydraulic machinery.
- Experience diagnosing and resolving problems on site.
- Working with CAN communication, especially J1939.
- Proficient in CAD software – AutoCAD and Solidworks (preferred) or Inventor. Others also considered.
- Experience with battery electric drivetrains.
- Experience designing SELV or PELV systems to AS3000 wiring rules.
