About the Department of Regional NSW:
The Department of Regional NSW was formed in 2020 as a central agency for regional issues. The Department is responsible for building resilient regional economies and communities, strengthening primary industries, managing the use of regional land, overseeing the state’s mineral and mining resources and ensuring government investment in regional NSW is fair and delivers positive outcomes for local communities and businesses.
Primary Purpose of the role:
As a Media and Communications Advisor, you'll play a crucial role in developing and executing media activities to showcase the impactful work of the NSW Government and the Department of Regional NSW.
Key Responsibilities:
- Craft engaging media content, including press releases, strategies, and pitches, within tight deadlines.
- Provide expert advice to support media activities and initiatives.
- Proactively respond to media inquiries and identify opportunities for positive coverage.
- Monitor media channels to stay ahead of key issues and trends.
- Coordinate regional events, presentations, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Collaborate with designers and subject matter experts to produce compelling collateral for diverse audiences.
Key Challenges:
- Balancing competing priorities and stakeholder expectations in a dynamic environment.
- Adapting to evolving government agendas and emerging communication trends.
- Delivering high-quality work within tight timeframes.
Decision Making:
- Operate autonomously while seeking guidance from the Media Manager as needed.
- Determine content and scope of media materials, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
- Refer significant decisions to the Media Manager for review and approval.
Key Requirements:
- Previous experience delivering media projects across various communication channels.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working with government officials and media outlets.
- Ability to navigate complex information and communicate it effectively to diverse audiences.
- Tertiary qualifications in communications or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Willingness to occasionally work after hours, on-call, and weekends.
