Applications are invited for the full-time ongoing position of Media Officer in the Office of Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, based in the Senator’s Electorate Office in Darwin or Alice Springs, NT.
The key duties of the position are include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement a media and communications plan for the Senator
- Liaise with national and local media outlets, developing and maintaining key contacts of national, territory and specialised topic areas
- Monitoring of local and national media, providing daily media briefings to the Senator and Chief of Staff, and alerting the Senator to opportunities and major issues
- Prompt management of media enquiries, reviewing and responding to reports
- Drafting and management of documents such as newsletters, and the associated coordination and distribution of these materials
- Development and monitoring of social media content and channels
- Preparation of speeches, media releases and talking points for interviews and other media events as required
- Working closely with other parliamentarian’s offices, Government departments, stakeholders and colleagues with relation to the communication of legislative and policy issues
- Attending community events and occasional interstate travel may be required on weekends and public holidays
- Other duties as required
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills and experience:
- Exceptional ability to engage and communicate with a broad range of people
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail
- The ability to build networks across offices and agencies to deliver key outcomes
- Advanced computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and design applications such Microsoft Illustrator and Adobe InDesign
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple and competing work tasks to deliver to agreed deadlines
- High levels of professionalism, confidentiality, emotional intelligence and openness to change
- A Diploma or Degree in Communications, Journalism, or Political Science will be viewed favourably
- Previous experience working for a Parliamentarian, writing speeches, responding to constituents, or engagement with broad Indigenous policy matters
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-23which include:
- A commencing salary between $69,170 and $80,757 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills
- An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work
- Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements)
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable
A National Police History check is required, and a probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
