About the Role
The Medical Receptionist is a crucial first point of contact for our business. As such, the following qualities are essential:
- The ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Ability to communicate with a diverse range of people, acknowledging and understanding that patients sometimes present in distress/upset/unwell
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, and work positively and productively within a team environment
The following additional qualities are desirable:
- Minimum 1 year previous experience as a Medical Receptionist in Skin Cancer/General Practice or similar administrative position
- Previous experience in the use of Best Practice
- Working knowledge of Windows based software systems (eg, Word, Excel)
- An understanding of the Medicare Benefits Schedule
- An understanding of medical terminology, medical and allied health professional organisations
- An understanding or experience in general practice accreditation and standards
Key duties involve:
- Answer the telephone in a courteous and professional manner
- Receive and convey messages in writing, verbally and electronically
- Liaise with patients and their families in a compassionate manner
- Liaise with GPs, other health professionals, and their staff
- Make appointments
- Fax, scan, and file documents
- Contribute equitably to maintaining the cleanliness of the practice
- Any other administrative duties as directed by the Practice Manager or Principal doctor
- Handling of cash, EFTPOS, and other payments
