About the Role
The Metal Machinist (First Class) role responsibilities include:
- Follow Safe Work and environmental harm reduction procedures
- Study drawings and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances and machining methods for articles to be manufactured and products to be constructed
- Measure and mark out metal stock and castings using various gauges
- Shape metal stock using manual and semi-automated machine tools
- Operate CNC machinery according to standard operating procedures and documented instructions
- Check accuracy of manufactured articles and finished tools and jigs to fine tolerances, using precision measuring instruments
- Test and modify manufactured parts and products
- Apply protective finishes to patterns and painting pattern sections to indicate method of assembly
- Read, understand, and follow Work Orders, specifications and accurately create/maintain work and As Built records
- Inspect and works as necessary to meet product specifications
- Work with other trades to assist in the machining, fabrication or welding of multi-component weldments and assemblies
- Assemble and test finished and semi-finished products
- Willingness to cross-train and perform the work of other job tasks in addition to the primary assigned position.
Essential:
- AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3) or equivalent
- Experience as a First Class Machinist or Toolmaker in a manufacturing/ fabrication environment
- Proficient in reading drawings and technical information
- Demonstrated effectiveness working in a team environment.
- Confident, proactive character, ability to take directions
- Good English communication skills
- Desirable: familiarity with destructive and non-destructive examination techniques of engineering products
