CSA Mine is one of Australia’s longest operating copper mines with a history stretching back almost 150 years. At 1.9 kilometres deep, CSA is the second deepest copper mine in Australia and the third highest copper grade in the world. Located near the NSW town of Cobar, CSA Mine employs around 550 people and produces approximately 40,000 tonnes of copper concentrate per year. The ore is mined and processed on site and then transported by rail 700km to the Port of Newcastle for export. CSA Mine was acquired by Metals Acquisition Limited in June 2023.
Job Description
CSA Mine is looking for a Mining Engineer to join the team. You will work in a team that is focused on safety, while driving to meet the plan. You will work in one of the world’s most iconic mining districts, which has the second highest grade copper mine in the country.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Primarily working on operational improvements within the technical and operational departments
- Preparation of weekly and monthly development and production schedules
- Effectively communicating the weekly plan to the mine foreman
- Producing stope notes and drill and blast designs
- Ensure work carried out meets current legislative requirements
- Undertake stope reconciliations to establish an optimal design process
- Conduct risk assessments as required
About you:
- Current Australian Driver’s Licence (minimum P2 or equivalent)
- Degree in Mining Engineering
- Minimum 2 years experience in an underground metalliferous environment
- Experience in mine planning software including Deswik
- Have completed your underground time required for a production managers certificate (desired)
- Experience in short term scheduling
- Experience in drill and blast
- Experience in mine ventilation and cemented mine backfill (desired)
Conditions:
This position is offered on a residential or drive in drive out (DIDO) or fly in fly out (FIFO) from Sydney or Brisbane on an 8/6 roster. If residential is the preferred commute option relocation costs and a housing subsidy will be provided to the successful candidate to assist in relocating to Cobar. Candidates interested in the DIDO or FIFO will be provided with commute single accommodation and meals at the mine camp. CSA also provides Pool & Gym Reimbursements to our employees and their dependants.

Located an eight-hour drive to Sydney, nine-hour drive to Melbourne, and a quick three-hour drive to Dubbo, Cobar is a fascinating town rich in mining heritage and natural attractions. Entertainment options include restaurants, pubs, and clubs for dining out. The town boasts beautiful parks, two reservoirs, picnic areas and playgrounds.
