About the role
This role represents a unique opportunity for a passionate and experienced Educator to deliver the Museum's education strategy for 2024 and beyond.
As National Education Manager you will be responsible for engaging, coordinating and facilitating our National Education Program in schools and education settings. You will liaise with stakeholders in Victoria and nationally to promote the IMA and build a strong network base.
About the Islamic Museum of Australia
The Islamic Museum of Australia (IMA) provides educational and cross-cultural experiences and showcases the artistic and cultural heritage of Muslims in Australia and in Islamic societies abroad. It aims to foster community harmony and facilitate an understanding of the values and contributions of Muslims to Australian society.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and deliver the organisation’s 2024+ National Education strategy
- Oversee the development of new curriculum linked activities across the IMA experience (including pre and post excursion activities and the onsite tour).
- Be responsible for liaising directly with schools/teachers, the Education Department and other education stakeholders to develop and build a client base.
- Establish connections and participate in relevant state and national networks (professional association memberships), to support dialogue and shared understanding with teachers, and exploring opportunities for ongoing teacher and student engagement with the IMA.
- Manage the education tour experience and program including allocation of staff and volunteers for school group tours.
- Delivery of presentations and tours at the Museum and in-school incursions.
- Deliver online professional development programs for primary and secondary teachers (including pre-service teachers), school leaders and other support school staff.
- Delivery of education related grant activities
- Adherence to all Museum policies, procedures and work practices.
Key Selection Criteria
Education / Qualifications / Specialist training
- Bachelor of Education (minimum)
Experience / knowledge
- Minimum five years’ experience as an educator in a school or arts/cultural institution setting.
- Strong understanding of the educational roles of Museums and the ability to lead the strategic planning for a team of educators.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and evaluating curriculum linked learning programs in a school or cultural institution.
- Demonstrated experience in working autonomously within a small team.
Skills & attributes
- Results driven, applying knowledge of learning strategies, digital technologies and the Australian curriculum.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds is essential, given the Museum's focus on Islamic culture and its diverse audience base.
- A genuine passion for education, cultural understanding, and promoting intercultural dialogue is essential for inspiring others and fulfilling the museum's mission.
