Basic job description:
The Neurophysiology Scientist is responsible for the provision of Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring during surgical procedures where there is risk for iatrogenic injury to the central and peripheral nervous systems in patients.
The daily responsibilities of the role include a comprehensive set up of neurophysiological monitoring equipment; placement of electrodes on the patient, performing neurophysiological testing during procedures, and communicating with surgeons, anaesthetists and other healthcare professionals to the status of complex neurophysiological data.
The scientist is also responsible for the safe removal of equipment from the patient, thorough post operative reporting, and the appropriate safe storage and maintenance of electrophysiological equipment. All training is provided on site alongside further professional development.
The role is open to applicants from Melbourne or Queensland, other areas considered. The role does require the occasional interstate travel (air) to capital cities in other states where our services are required or exceeds local staffing capacity.
All scientists upon completion are provided with all required equipment and consumables required to perform the role.
Requirements:
All scientists must currently have a bachelor’s degree in; Psychophysiology, Biomedical Science, Neuroscience or equivalent science degree.
All applicants should hold a current valid driver’s licence, as well as a suitable vehicle.
The successful applicant will be able to work both autonomously, as well as part of a team. The applicant will also be highly organised with great time management skills, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
It is a requirement to possess a smartphone, capable of email/calendar management, and contactable during on call and operative hours.
All staff must undergo a police check and be capable of holding a working with children’s check, blue card or state based equivalent.
Salary:
· Salary range is dependent on competency, previous IONM experience and capability.
