About the Opportunity The Drug Health Services  team at South Western Sydney Local Health District are seeking a flexible, adaptable and driven Nurse Practitioner or Transitional Nurse Practitioner to join our growing service.

Our district offers unmatched opportunities for NPs or TNPs to join NSW's leading Local Health District for the field. Our globally recognised facilities are setting the standards for NP's and offer secure, ongoing roles. You will be highly supported in your role and have the opportunity to experience acute presentations and work in a fast paced environment where you can utilise your specialised skills.

Working in our globally recognised facility will allow you to provide a range of treatments and interventions at hospitals and community health centres to support individuals, their families and carers who have problems associated with alcohol and other drug use. 

The aim of Drug Health Services is to improve health and reduce drug-related harm for individuals, their families and carers, and the wider community of South Western Sydney. The Drug Health Services offered by our district are at the forefront of new initiatives, methods and models of care and aim to ensure patient centred care for the local community.

Our Drug Health Service boasts a strong, supportive and driven team who actively work together to ensure opportunities for development. The Management team as well as current Nurse Practitioner are always willing to train, mentor and develop new NP's or TNP's to reach their goals and make a true difference to the community.

Where You'll Be Working Drug Health Services operates across South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD), providing a range of treatments and interventions at hospitals and community health centres to support individuals, their families and carers who have problems associated with alcohol and other drug use.

The Drug Health Services offered by our district are at the forefront of new initiatives, methods and models of care and aim to ensure patient centred care for the local community.

The service boasts a strong, supportive and driven team who actively work together to ensure opportunities for development. The Management team are always willing to train, mentor and develop employees to reach their goals and make a true difference to the district. We have a range of education and training opportunities including scholarships and other internal education programs which focus on succession planning throughout the district.

The Drug Health Services Team is a high performing team who strive for excellence in providing leading care and healthier communities. The team is a finalist in the 2022 NSW Health Awards and aim to achieve consistent delivery, quality and safe care for the community.

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). 
    Transitional Nurse Practitioners:
    Suitable applicants for TNP positions are to be clinically and professionally supported to undertake a NMBA-approved Nurse Practitioner master's degree or supported to meet course entry requirements at time of employment.
    Nurse Practitioners:
    Authorised by the NMBA in accordance with s95 of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (NSW) No 86a to
    use the protected title of 'Nurse Practitioner' and therefore utilise the extensions to clinical practice including prescribing, referral, diagnosis, initiation of diagnostics and discharge from care.

  2. Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive health assessments of patients within target populations in order to collect relevant clinical data to inform clinical and diagnostic decision making processes
  3. Demonstrated ability to articulate sound reasoning behind clinical, diagnostic and prescribing decisions that are informed by evidence based practice and made within a nursing context
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs
  5. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise
  6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical and reflective thinking, complex reasoning and analysis to guide assessments, clinical judgements and decisions whilst managing complete episodes of patient care.
  7. Demonstrated ability to perform in a clinical leadership role evidenced by participation in practice development activities including mentoring, education, active participation in communities of practice, policy development, research and quality improvement.
