Townsville University Hospital are seeking an experienced and outcome driven Nurse Unit Manager to manage and support the Medical Ward 1 team. This is a permanent full-time role.
Nurse Unit Manager will facilitate and provide nursing leadership, support, clinical supervision and mentoring within the nursing team and provide nursing resource, education and research accountabilities and strategic management to facilitate the delivery of high quality, best practice care to clients of Medical Ward 1.
Townsville University Hospital, located adjacent to one of Queensland’s leading tertiary institutions, James Cook University, is the largest tertiary hospital in northern Australia, providing specialist referral services for 700,000 people living from Mackay, to the Torres Strait, to the Northern Territory border.

Medical Ward 1Medical One is a 29-bed Medical Ward which specialises in Renal, Respiratory and Gastroenterology patients. The unit compromises a mixture of single rooms and four bed bays and of 2 ante-isolation negative pressure rooms

- Salary rates between $5081.10 - $5516.60 p.f. (NG7)

Role requirements
- Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
- Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
- The applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, including the Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Matrix and Power Point.
The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:
- Provide expert nursing leadership and coordination within a healthcare environment.
- Sound knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and theory and the ability to apply relevant legislation, guidelines and standards.
- Integrate the strategic direction and priorities for quality improvement into the clinical service, establishing a quality framework.
- Advanced leadership, negotiation, conflict resolution and change management skills to ensure customer focused service provision amongst the multidisciplinary team
- High level of communication skills required for problem solving and decision making.
- Use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position.
- Ongoing professional development of self and others.
