 Come for the life experience, stay for the lifestyle

NWRH is now seeking multiple Occupational Therapists to join our team on either Full time or Part time (6,12 or 24 month contract) basis. These positions are based in Townsville, Mackay, Mount Isa or Longreach. Applications from all experience levels, from fresh graduates to seasoned experts, are encouraged. All contracts have a possibility of extensions.

There is also an opportunity for a leadership role for the candidate with suitable experience.

As part of a supportive, diverse, and multidisciplinary team, you’ll provide occupational therapy services in collaboration with a range of specialists. You'll get to treat based on clinical need without the barriers that are often present in private practice funding, offering long-term treatment and prevention strategies.

Working with a diverse range of clients, you'll set your own schedule and have the chance to see the real difference your work makes as you enable rural communities to live and receive high-quality holistic care.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting participants inclusion in the communities and activities they choose;
  • Assessing clients' emotional, cognitive, developmental and physical capabilities using clinical observations and standardised assessments;
  • Planning and directorship of programs through the use of vocational, recreational, social and educational activities on an individual and group basis;
  • Assessing clients' functional potential in their home, leisure, work and school environments, and recommend environmental adaptations to maximise their performance;
  • Providing advice to family members, carers, employers and teachers about adapting clients' home, leisure, work and school environments;
  • Delivering goal-directed early childhoods supports; and
  • Assisting with community education activities to improve the health of individuals by raising awareness of healthy lifestyles, diseases and disabilities.

 Additionally; we have a role based entirely in the Transition Care Program (TCP) in Townsville and surrounding communities:

The Transition Care Program (TCP) is a significant policy initiative between the State and Commonwealth Governments.

The program aims to:

  • Minimize extended hospital stays for older individuals.
  • Prevent premature admission to residential care.
  • Reduce unnecessary Emergency Department presentations.

 The program provides short-term support and active management for older people at the interface of acute/subacute and aged care sectors.

 For further questions, please contact David Stringini on ***************@nwrh.com.au or phone: 07 4781 9***.

Skills and experience

In addition, you will need:

  • A relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
  • A current, unrestricted 'C' class Australian Driver's Licence; and
  • The right to live and work in Australia.

 Why join our team?

  • The clinical caseload is varied, giving great exposure to a range of different clinical presentations, allowing you to explore all areas of your discipline early on in your career;
  • We provide genuine community and not-for-profit primary health care services where there is no cost to the client;
  • We have a great team culture with many early career professionals across our business; this allows for strong friendships to be formed and a wealth of peer support to be provided;

  • If applying as a Graduate, you will be well supported with structured supervision and mentoring.

 We pride ourselves on growing our clinicians to be the best versions of themselves and providing career progression opportunities. At whatever level you join, you'll have ongoing mentorship and support available and the opportunity to choose your own external mentor.
