About the Opportunity
Perioperative Services Department at Bowral and District Hospital, is dedicated to the delivery of outstanding patient care. An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and suitably experienced person to join the Perioperative Team as the Operating Theatre Assistant.
The Operating Theatre Assistant will work within a dynamic team environment to provide safe, reliable and supportive assistance to the nursing and medical staff in the provision of surgical services through non-clinical functions.
The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with an interest in patient care, safety and service delivery. They will have an attention to detail and a proven track record of completing tasks to a high standard regardless of whether they are working independently or as part of the dynamic perioperative team.
Overall responsibilities include the preparation of operating theatre equipment, transport of patients, specimens and equipment, assisting with the transfer, positioning, prepping and/or physical supporting of patients, cleaning of floors and furniture, removal of soiled linen and waste, restocking supplies and maintaining safe and hygienic conditions within the operating suite.
You will also possess:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently
- Moderate to high level of physical fitness
- Excellent patient and customer service focus
- Be available for a range of shifts across a 7 day rotating roster
What You'll be Doing
Safe transportation of patients to and from theatre as well as the cleanliness of theatres.
All staff are expected to take reasonable care that their actions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others, that they comply with any reasonable instruction that is given them and with any reasonable policies/procedures relating to health or safety in the workplace, as well as notifying any hazards/risks or incidents to their managers.

Bowral & District Hospital is a level 3 acute bed facility which provides a wide range of services including 24 hour Emergency Department, 2 x Operating Theatres plus a Procedures room, Day Surgery, Endoscopy, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Critical and Coronary Care, Maternity & Paediatrics.
