Dicky Bill Australia is a family owned and operated, national horticulture business with operations in both Queensland and Victoria. We are specialists in growing Fresh Cut Salads, Cos and Herbs for supermarket chains (both domestic & international), independent retail, local restaurants, and major metropolitan markets.
The Role:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to oversee the operations of our fresh produce facility specializing in growing, washing, and packing leafy vegetables in Maffra, Gippsland. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing and production management, with a focus on optimizing processes, ensuring quality control, and holding to account work centres to performance metrics.
Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor our site management team.
- Provide guidance and support to ensure that all team members are trained and equipped to perform their roles effectively.
- Foster a culture in line with our company values - safety, teamwork, integrity, pride, consistency and continuous improvement.
Production Management:
- Oversee all aspects of the production process, from planting and harvesting to washing and packing.
- Improve existing production schedules and workcentres to ensure timely delivery of fresh produce to customers.
- Monitor production metrics and implement improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
Quality Assurance:
- Implement and maintain rigorous quality control standards throughout the production process.
- Develop and enforce procedures to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and industry standards.
- Coordinate with quality assurance team to conduct regular inspections and audits.
Inventory Management:
- Oversee inventory levels of raw materials, packaging materials, and finished goods.
- Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely replenishment of supplies.
- Implement inventory control measures to minimize shrinkage and loss.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Oversee the in-house maintenance team to ensure compliance and development of preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors as needed for equipment servicing and repairs.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay abreast of relevant regulations and industry standards related to food safety, labour, and environmental compliance.
- Ensure that the facility operates in compliance with all applicable regulations and permits.
- Work closely with regulatory agencies to address any compliance issues or concerns.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings initiatives.
- Lead cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and best practices.
- Monitor key performance indicators and metrics to track progress and measure success.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a track record of effectively managing and developing teams.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Preferred knowledge of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles.
- Experience with Lean or other continuous improvement methodologies would be an advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends during peak production seasons as required.
- Expectation of focus – 50% factory, 25% farm, 25% office.
