Job description

The Psychosocial Response Unit undertakes compliance and engagement activities to ensure stakeholders are fulfilling their obligations in relation to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (The Act) and the code.

The Operations Manager (Psychosocial) will lead and manage a statewide flexible team of professional, technical staff by providing high level operational direction and support.

The role has an important strategic function to develop and maintain relationships and networks with whole of government, industry stakeholders and the wider community to identify contentious and emerging issues, develop initiatives, and provide advice on matters relating to the Act and the Code.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the Psychosocial Inspectorate team over which you have responsibility.  This includes ensuring you and your team members are aware of and observing their responsibilities and obligations including under relevant Office of Industrial Relations (OIR) Health Safety and Wellbeing policies and procedures.
  • Provide strategic operational direction, support and advice to team members in accordance with procedures, objectives and performance standards adopted by OIR, and by becoming actively involved in the more difficult or potentially contentious issues;
  • Maintain relationships with internal stakeholders impacted by the delivery of the service provided by the Psychosocial Inspectorate team, through ongoing consultation, presentations and data analysis of trends emerging from the matters referred to the Psychosocial Inspectorate team;
  • Manage relationships with key regional and local stakeholders in industry, commerce, Government, education, training and the wider community to identify and resolve on-going and emerging issues presented in relation to psychosocial compliance service delivery;
  • Lead, coach and manage a statewide team by providing operational and strategic direction through regular feedback and mentoring to support the achievement of both business and personal objectives and encourage opportunities for development at work;
  • Implement OIR policies and procedures with respect to human resource management, in particular, performance planning and review, injury prevention and management, workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and the promotion of a discrimination free workplace culture that values equity and diversity;

Although not mandatory a degree/qualification in management, occupational health & safety or a relevant discipline is highly desirable.

Successful applicants must have or be able to acquire:

  • a minimum level of Diploma in Government (Workplace Inspection);
  • a minimum level of Diploma in Government (Investigation);
  • a minimum level of Graduate Certificate (Management);
  • a current driver's licence; and
  • computer skills necessary to accurately and efficiently input and retrieve data and develop reports from relevant business systems.
