To support this growth, we’re looking to hire an Optics Engineer to help us roll out our next generation product.
About the role
As the Optics Engineer, you will work collaboratively with the Engineering and NPI teams to develop the next generation of Opthalmic 3D imaging instruments. You will develop and improve on challenging optical projects and collaborate with other Engineers and Scientists on the design of optical setups and calibration equipment to achieve our high-quality product requirements.
Reporting to the Principal Optics Engineer, the role’s key responsibilities include:
- Develop and improve on challenging optical projects (optical alignment of prototypes using lenses, mirrors, cameras, design of optical setups and calibration equipment etc).
- Troubleshoot; Diagnose problems that arise in manufacturing and provide solutions.
- Optical design from concept through design optimization and tolerancing by using optical software tool such as Zemax.
- Test of optical components and optical prototypes.
- Collaborate with mechanical design teams to release drawings to manufacturers.
- Operate effectively within our Quality Management regime with regards to the maintenance of documentation and records; create or improve on existing manufacturing SOP's, IQC for optical components, assembly drawings, and other technical documentation as required.
- Responsible for optical projects and handover of skills and knowledge to NPI engineers and production personnel.
- Supervision, mentorship, and training of more junior staff on build processes and equipment; oversee those system builds completed by others.
With key collaborations across the business, you'll work in a friendly, and stimulating work environment at our design and production facility in Mulgrave, Melbourne.
Key requirements:
- A post-graduate degree in: Optics, Physics or equivalent.
- Advanced understanding of Optics, (knowledge in OCT & Medical Imaging highly desirable).
- Problem solving skills & strong attention to detail.
- Strong experience with optical design software (preferably in Ansys Zemax OpticStudio).
- Experience with geometrical optics, physical optics propagation, theory of diffraction & polarization optics.
- Knowledge of interferometric optical systems.
- Hands-on experience using optical test instrumentation.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills including the ability to clearly document the work & designs.
- Basic understanding of python programming.
- Ability to communicate cross-functionally with key stakeholders across the business, including NPI, Production and Engineering.
- High level of self-motivation, with the ability to work autonomously and drive those around you to achieve deadlines in a rapidly-evolving scale-up environment.
