Work Description
We have a fantastic Network Engineer opportunity to work for one of our major Telecommunications clients on Optical Transport Network Products. The Network Engineer provides the Telecommunications client with a technically skilled and operationally focused Optical Hardware testing skills. The Engineer will work from client’s Melbourne office, other locations in Melbourne city and from home, as required.
Roles & Responsibilities of Network Engineer
- Support for Optical Transport products testing in lab environment for configuration, device enrolment in NMS and troubleshooting.
- Support in design of Optical Transport Product test cases.
- Advise on best-practice for testing, evaluation, and use-cases.
- Support testing activity, including demonstration of best-practice workflows, contributing to process documentation.
- Help to expedite and de-risk the testing process, including issue/behaviour investigation, access to Subject Matter Experts (SME) for input, workarounds, and resolution.
- Support the client in the development and execution of test plans.
- Support to Client’s Engineering and Architecture Teams, as required.
- Provide guidance on deployment best-practice and configurations of the Hardware/Product
- Support in knowledge transfer for Operations and Planning teams and network architecture
- Coordinate with Client’s project managers, engineers, and vendors to ensure timely and quality delivery of projects and services
- Monitor and report on the performance, availability, and reliability of Client’s network and services and identify and resolve any issues or risks
- Conduct regular meetings and workshops with the Client to review the project status, scope, and deliverables and provide feedback and recommendations.
- Act as the primary point of contact and escalation point for Client’s technical issues or queries.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, such as network diagrams, configuration guides, test plans, and reports.
- Train and mentor, the customer's staff on the products and services and best practices
- Assist with communication, consultation, coordination, escalation, and leadership to address major problems.
Skillset and experience required
- The Network Engineer should have strong understanding of Telecommunications industry with preference for Australian experience
- Should have 3 – 5 years of strong experience in Optical Networks such as SDH, DWDM or OTN.
- Experience in any vendor Optical/DWDM products
- Experience in provisioning, managing, and troubleshooting Network Management Systems (NMS) for Optical Elements
- Any Optical vendor certification or CCNA is mandatory
- Knowledge of Ethernet networks (not mandatory)
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team environment and share capabilities to enhance work performance
- Exhibit excellent written, verbal, and technical communication skills
- Show integrity and ability to build positive working relationships.

- Expected salary: $100,000 - $120,000 per year
