Tasmanian Oyster Co (TOC for short) is committed to being the leader in sustainable oyster production, striving for best practice and continuous improvement in the management of the environment in which we operate. We are currently looking for Team Leaders and Farmhands for our Smithton farm.
TEAM LEADER:
We need key employees who understand our working environment, have a hands-on approach, and enjoy working outdoors. As the team leader, you will be responsible for leading a small team of workers in the day-to-day operations of our farm, including oyster grading, harvesting, and maintenance.
About you:
•Strong focus on Work, Health and Safety
•Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
•Good communication and leadership skills
•Ability to lead a small team
•Marine farming experience and skills preferred.
•Coxswains Licence and Forklift Licence (Desirable)
About us:
•Monday to Friday hours to meet tide, and weather changes.
•Oversee a small team with the direction of the Regional Manager.
•Hands on outdoor work in all weather conditions.
FARMHAND:
You don’t need any experience, but you do need to be willing to get in and have a go. You do need to love the water! Our days are spent out on boats looking after our oysters. That means we get warm, sunny days and we get wild, wet and cold days.
In the first 1-3 months, you will:
Complete the TOC onboarding process, including our safety induction, get to know your work mates and their roles within our business
Learn our company vision and values and what drives our successes
Get in and have a go – learn the tasks and ask lots of questions
Shadow our Team Leaders and experienced farmhands to get an understanding of your work
Check in with our People and Safety team to ensure you have everything you need to succeed
In 3-6 months, you will:
Demonstrate an understanding of the tasks at hand, our systems and procedures
Work cooperatively with others and use your initiative to find tasks to do
Attend further training or be signed up to Certificate III in Aquaculture
Understand our values and consciously work to them
After 6 months, you will:
Be able to work more autonomously and pro-actively
Be completing a Certificate III in Aquaculture, obtaining tickets like forklift and coxswains
