Paediatric Emergency Medicine Physician
The Role:
An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Emergency Physicians or Paediatricians to join the Paediatric Emergency Medicine team at Northern Health (multiple positions on offer).
This role requires the appointee to support and assist the Paediatric Emergency Medicine Unit in the provision of high quality medical services at Northern Health, consistent with Northern Health values.
Our ED has a co-allocated adult and Paediatric Emergency department that services an expanding corridor between Melbourne's vibrant inner north and the leafy Great Dividing Range.
We are accredited for both Adult and Paediatric Emergency training and have recently become the first Australian emergency department to offer Virtual emergency care to our community.
This role requires the appointees to support and assist the Emergency Medicine Units in the provision of high quality medical services at Northern Health, consistent with Northern Health values.
The Paediatric Emergency Medicine Physician will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members including allied health clinicians, nursing and medical staff to deliver high quality Paediatric Emergency Medicine services.
The role is based at the Northern Health campus, which services families from multiple socio-economic backgrounds, more than 185 countries of origin, over 106 different languages and over 90 religions/beliefs. The Northern Hospital's catchment is projected to increase in population by over 50% from 2021 to 2036, creating a department with multiple opportunities for growth and development. The team at The Northern is an open, dynamic and adaptive group with a strong culture of support and cooperation.
Permanent part time and fixed term contracts available.
To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Undergraduate medical qualification as a first degree is essential - MBBS, MD, PhD or equivalent
  • Fellowship with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM/RACP/JTC) or Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
  • Eligible for registration for Medicare provider number
  • Current National Police, and Working with Children History Check
Note:
Whilst Joint training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine is preferred, there is scope for a limited number of Emergency Medicine specialists or Paediatricians (without subspecialty training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine) to apply - as supported, second on consultant roles are available to help individuals develop their proficiency in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. Applications from RACP trainees (last 6 months of training) or from ACEM trainees post Fellowship exam will also be considered
