About the vacancy
As part of Adelaide Festival Centre’s drive to build on its strong position as an internationally recognised entertainment destination of choice, we are looking to increase our pool of casual chefs. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment where your contribution will be valued.
The kitchen caters to a number of different venues within Adelaide Festival Centre for a variety of functions and events.
The casual Pastry Chef position will support the Head Chef in the efficient production of food for internal and external functions, with consistent emphasis on quality, presentation, food safety and hygiene.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef in producing the right quantity of food at the highest standard for the required number of people on time and by the most effective and efficient use of staff equipment and materials.
- Maintain comprehensive product knowledge including ingredients, equipment, suppliers, markets and current trends.
- Handle the delivery process as required
- Avoid wastage in food preparation
- Work independently under general direction of the Head Chef
- Ensure standards are maintained for all kitchen personnel to develop a capable, professional, efficient and well-groomed kitchen team.
Competencies and Skills
The successful applicant will have:
- Commercial cookery certificate III or equivalent
- Significant knowledge and experience working within the food, hospitality or catering industry in a significant catering or sizeable restaurant operation
- Knowledge of WHS standards, food safety and hygiene requirements
- Excellent professional presentation standards
- Demonstrated ability in monitoring and controlling cost/profit relationships in catering/ restaurant environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work calmly and purposefully while under pressure
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritise workload
- Strong work ethic
