Provide invaluable support to the University’s student communityMultiple casual part time opportunities until January 2025Must be currently enrolled at the University, graduating at the end of 2025 or laterHEO 3 Step 1 $46.39 p/hourAbout the opportunityThe Peer Support Advisor (PSA) helps their student peers connect with other University support services and resources.The PSA delivers timely responses to both face-to-face and online enquiries to support current students and to ensure the smooth transition to campus life for those just commencing.The PSA provides support following University policy and procedures, ensuring consistent and high-quality client-focused services for students.The PSA contributes to organising and facilitating information sessions, activities and events, which serve to empower students, encourage connection between them and strengthen sense of belonging to the university.In 2024 the PSA team will undertake a collaborative project with the University's . The Safer communities Office delivers preventative education across the University related to sexual violence. To this end, we are seeking applications from individuals who will be comfortable talking about respectful relationships, sexual consent, and preventing domestic/family/gender-based violence. All training will be provided and no prior experience in this area is required.Your key responsibilities will be to:use knowledge of online university resources and develop an understanding of available services to provide support to students, and/or, as appropriate, refer to other staff or relevant servicesuse excellent communication skills to converse with students both face-to-face and via a number of online platforms, as well as to present information and co-facilitate workshops in an engaging waysupport the University’s student community by organising and delivering support activities and events that build engagement and self-empowermentParticipate in co-design projects which serve to improve the student experience, such as advisory groups and other student engagement activitiesRepresent different teams at events and info stalls, including the Safer Communities office and MySydney Scholarship teamsThe successful candidate will have/be:currently enrolled at the University, graduating at the end of 2025 or latera valid paid for employment working with children check (include WWCC number in your application), or be happy to obtain prior to commencingunderstanding of the student experience and an ability to empathise with othersstrong analytical, problem solving, critical thinking skills and attention to detailhigh level written and oral communication skills, with the ability to liaise with staff from all areas of the university, easily build rapport with students and successfully engage with and co-facilitate group sessions/workshopsdemonstrated ability to plan and prioritise workloads to meet deadlinesproactive, mature, approachable and flexible, with a positive attitudecomfortable when discussing sensitive issues around respectful relationships, sexual consent, and domestic/family/gender-based violenceExperience mentoring other students desirable but not essentialexperienced user of Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Canva, with creative design skills and event planning experience desirable but not essentialadvanced speaking and writing skills in a second language is desirable but not essentialAvailable to attend in-person training between July 11-19th and then have availability to work at least 2 in-person shifts a week until August 30th.Please note: MySydney Scholars are highly encouraged to apply.Closing date: June 2To keep our community safe, please be aware of our which form our conditions of entry for all staff, students and visitors coming to campus.Sponsorship / work rights for AustraliaPlease note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the positionPre-employment checksYour employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University.
