The Role
Reporting directly to the Planning and Drafting Manager is a key role and is responsible for leading and supporting the drafting team on detailed designs and drawings of custom caravans. Critical to the success of the position will be your proven ability to produce specifications, plans, and detailed drawings of caravan assemblies that meet safety, quality, and output targets.
You will set the standard for procedures while managing all customer drawings, and design templates, and maintain a standard for the team.
Other areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Lead, motivate, and develop a collaborative team culture
- Completion of drawings/design using SOLIDWORKS
- Manage the production of drawings for existing and current orders and coordinate the development of new designs
- Check and review the drawings and plans created by other planners
- Ensure the drafting function is fully compliant and they adopt procedures to assess each job
- Document management and control of completed drawings
- Manage the drafting team and ensure the team is achieving budgeted plans and production releases
- Ability and willingness to work effectively as part of the design team
- Ability to work extra hours when required at short notice
The Person
You are currently a Draftsmen in a manufacturing environment and want to join an organization that can offer you more breadth and challenge or you are now ready to step up into a new role with a growing customer base. Ideally, you will have experience within one or more of the following industries. Caravan manufacturing, automotive, automotive component manufacturing, transportation equipment manufacturing, specialty vehicle and machinery manufacturing.
To be considered for this position you must possess the following:
- Attention to detail
- Minimum of 5 years demonstrated and progressive work experience in a draftsmen position within manufacturing
- Demonstrated experience in caravan design is highly regarded though not essential
- Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS
- A self-starter attitude and the ability to manage your time and team effectively to ensure customer deadlines are met
- A commitment to quality and accuracy
- A commitment to self-improvement and continuing professional development
