About the Opportunity

 This is a full-time fixed term opportunity working 5 days/week until June 2025


We are currently seeking a supportive and adaptable Play Facilitator to join our Newpin team in Port Kembla.

As a Play Facilitator your role will be to provide centre based therapeutic support to families referred for the restoration of their child/ren or for family preservation. More specifically this role provides therapeutic play opportunities and programs for parents, infants and/or children attending the program. You will provide therapeutic play opportunities and educational programs, while supporting and role modelling for parents and children at our purpose-built family playroom.

This role requires a motivated, sensitive, and nurturing professional who is passionate to work without judgement and collaboratively within our team and to develop safe relationships that supports children and their parents. The children attending our program will have likely experienced trauma and be living outside their family. Experience working with children that have experienced trauma is essential.

Who are we?
The Newpin - New Parent and InfantNetwork program specialises in supporting parent’s families who have children placed in Out of Home Care due to child protection concerns. It is a trauma informed, relational program that promotes the skills that parents need to manage practical and emotional challenges in the parenting of their child/ren; as well as increasing the elements of safety within the family. 

 

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor Qualifications in a relevant field with extensive experience working with Children aged birth – 5 years.
  • Experience writing reports tracking the development of children
  • Ability to work well in a team, participating in regular self-reflections with the team, and supporting supervising play workers.
  • Experience working with children that have experienced trauma.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing safe therapeutic relationships that support children and their parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a stimulating and educational play environment for the healthy physical, emotional and cognitive development of children, aged from birth to five years
  • Knowledge and experience of managing challenging behaviours when working with children
  • Experience in supporting parents in developing their parenting skills and positive relationships with their children.
  • Personal qualities will include warmth, flexibility, ability to think and act appropriately in crises, and empathy
  • Experience of working with diversity including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally and linguistically diverse families.
