The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) is the peak state industry body for the minerals and energy sector including coal, metal, gas, explorers, producers and suppliers across the resources sector. We are seeking expressions of interest for the position of Policy Director, Environment.
Reporting to QRC’s Chief Executive Officer, the position will contribute to QRC’s policy development and advocacy agenda with a primary focus on environmental regulation and governance in Queensland’s mining and gas industry, as well as encourage leading practice environmental management by the industry, and supporting the communication of those practices to community and stakeholders.
Specifically, the Policy Director, Environment will provide input to implementation of QRC’s strategic work program including the environmental assessment and conditioning of resource companies at both a state and Commonwealth level; ongoing operation of the Financial Provisioning Scheme; the provision of environmental offsets and related biodiversity matters (including the Great Barrier Reef); rehabilitation and relinquishment including long-term regional outcomes; and the opportunities presented by the increasing focus on the circular economy.
This position would suit an individual with high-level policy and stakeholder consultation skills as well as advanced critical thinking skills, analytical and interpersonal skills. Experience in government policy development and/or in an industry association would be highly regarded.
This position offers an attractive remuneration package which will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
