As a Population Health Officer position your responsibility includes the development, implementation and evaluation of Council's health promotion initiatives as derived through the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan (MPHWP).
Strong skills and experience in designing and delivering health promotion campaigns and initiatives, coupled with a robust understanding of public health theory and practice is something that the candidate will bring to the role. The ability to communicate well with diverse groups including community members, internal and external stakeholders will be essential for formulating and implementing quality health prevention initiatives as a candidate for the Population Health Officer position.
What you'll be doing:
- Represent Council at internal and external stakeholder meetings and events. Collaborate with stakeholders and bring information back to the area to ensure an effective response.
- Plan and undertake specific community development and planning activities consistent with Council policies, strategic plans and operational plans.
- Utilise internal planning mechanisms that facilitate a ‘health in all' approach toward health and wellbeing outcomes for community.
- Assist in the development of submissions to other levels of Government for resources which respond to priority health issues and actively advocate for local health needs.
- Engage and collaborate with local workplaces, schools, and community groups to implement best practice health promotion initiatives that support effective, accountable and successful outcomes.
Actively and positively promote processes and systems which ensure effective teamwork and communication.
- Stay abreast of current information affecting broad service provision through reading and networking.
- Actively foster a learning environment and contribute to regular learning opportunities for colleagues.
Key skills and experience you'll bring to the role:
- Tertiary or higher degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Social Planning, Community Development or similar field; and relevant experience, or lesser formal qualifications with significant experience.
- Experience in developing and implementing broad strategies to achieve health prevention objectives, particularly in the context of influencing public policy, health systems, or population based behavioural change.
- Experience of working within a diverse client base as well as new and emerging communities.
- A clear understanding of and commitment to the social model and social determinants of health.
- Demonstrated ability to review, develop and implement improved systems and processes to enhance organisation efficiency and effectiveness.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including an ability to write reports, plans, and submissions, deliver oral presentations and use social media.
- The ability to liaise with a wide range of health and welfare agencies and maintain effective partnerships.
