Practice Leader - Brighter Futures

  • Full-time contract until June 2025
  • This role is paid under the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award 2010- Level 6 
  • Location: Newcastle & surrounds

About the Opportunity 

The Practice Leader is a specialist position within the Samaritans Child Youth and Family early intervention and family preservation programs. The position is responsible for the guidance, support and mentoring of staff in the implementation of effective practice relating to children, young people, families and communities.

The Practice Leader works across the teams delivering early intervention and family preservation casework and case management. The Practice Leader is responsible to develop and implement best practice, evidence informed supports to improve the outcomes for children, young people, families and carers who are engaged in the early intervention and family preservation services. The Practice Leader will be consulted for their practice knowledge and the application of best practice principles to inform and influence practice.

Essential Criteria 

  • Tertiary degree qualification in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology or related field
  • A minimum of five years experience in the delivery of human services
  • Relevant experience in leadership and/or consultation
  • Demonstrated ability to use a culturally appropriate approach in implementing appropriate models of intervention, create opportunities, empower and promote the wellbeing of young people through engagement of families and carers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of therapeutic services that may be used by children, young people and their families such as CAMHS, headspace, NDIS
  • Strong interpersonal skills that provide the basis for effective negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution practices and outcomes
  • A non-judgemental and empathetic approach to engaging and working with young people and their families
  • Ability to develop rapport with carers, child/young people and their families/significant others and Community
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to maintain confidentiality and accountability; including records of children and young people and their families, team and organisational discussions
  • The ability to effectively develop and maintain positive working relationships and networks with other Government and Non-Government agencies/services
  • Demonstrated ability to participate positively in team work, training and supervision processes

The successful applicant will possess or willingness to obtain the following: NSW Working with Children Check, National Criminal History Check, First aid & CPR certificate  and undertake a pre-employment functional medical.
