About the Position
The Principal Building Surveyor is responsible for the accurate, lawful and accountable determination of building applications and resolves building related issues arising from complaints or inspections. The position provides team leadership, expert advice and recommendations to the Manager and sets the direction on building related matters for the Business Unit.
Key Responsibilities
The duties of the Principal Building Surveyor will include but are not limited to:
- Manage the processing and issuance of building applications in compliance with the Building Act 2011
- Lead, support, and mentor a multi-disciplined team
- Provide accurate and expert technical and legislative advice to internal stakeholders and members of the public on building matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to excellent customer service
About You
The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.
- Tertiary level qualification in building, or other accredited qualification allowing for registration as a Building Surveyor Practitioner Level 1 (required) in Western Australia.
- A high level of knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of statutory building processes in a Local Government environment.
- Demonstrated people management skills, including staff supervision, recruitment, and managing performance.
- Excellent communications skills both written and oral. The ability to negotiate complex matters involving cross functional issues.
- Demonstrated ability to develop innovative ideas and strategies and maintain professional skills in accordance with contemporary best practice.
- Excellent knowledge of the relevant Western Australian Planning system, and Local Government legislation and statutory processes.

This permanent full-time position is a Level 9 Inside Workforce Agreement positions which attracts a salary from $119,122.63 - $125,394.51 gross pro rata per annum plus superannuation.

- National Police Clearance (valid within the last 3 months)
- Pre-Employment Medical and DAS clearance
