The purpose of the Principal Communications Officer is to develop and execute internal and external communication strategies and activities. This role manages a small team of communication professionals that deliver tailored, fit-for-purpose communication solutions.

Key Outcomes and Accountabilities
The aim of this role is to:

  • Provide leadership, coaching and development to direct reports within the Communications team, workflow management and professional development.
  • Interpret complex information and understand the internal and external environments to develop high-quality and engaging communication and stakeholder materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Cultivate an innovative and creative approach to external and internal communications.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with senior leaders across the agency, confidently providing strategic advice and leveraging relationships to maximise the impact of communication plans.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a busy multi-disciplinary team, delivering results effectively with fellow communication, events, multimedia, digital and social media specialists.
  • Deliver high-quality communication material and collateral in support of the QBCC's strategic objectives.
  • Provide advice on the effective use of traditional, digital and online communication methods.
  • Prepare submissions, reports, briefing material and general correspondence for senior management.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact on internal communications and make recommendations and improvements to enhance the effectiveness of campaigns and activities.
Candidate Attributes * 5+ years in a communications role with experience in leading a team within an organisation that has a geographically dispersed workforce.
  • Qualifications in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or equivalent is desired.
  • Significant experience in the development and delivery of a range of communication and engagement strategies, events and training initiatives.
  • Sound organisational skills and ability to meet flexible and demanding short-term deadlines while maintaining discipline over delivery of ongoing work.
  • Previous experience managing internal engagement platforms (e.g Intranet) and CRM systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • A positive, analytical and proactive approach to resolving problems and identifying improvement opportunities.
