This is a twenty-two (22) month fixed term, full-time position commencing in Term 2, 2024 with possible extension and/or permanency.

The School Curriculum and Standards Division is seeking to recruit a qualified, highly motivated and committed Principal Consultant – Secondary Curriculum and Assessment (Mathematics Years 7-12) with specialisation in Mathematics Essential and Foundation Mathematics in Years 11-12.
The School Curriculum and Standards Division provides administrative and secretariat services for and implements the decisions of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Authority provides quality curriculum, assessment, and standards to enable all Western Australian students to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.
Located in the Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate, the Principal Consultant – Secondary Curriculum and Assessment (Mathematics), manages and provides leadership for course moderation and the development and review of curriculum, assessment and standards support materials in the area of Mathematics for Years 7–12 with a particular emphasis on Non-ATAR Mathematics in Years 11–12.
The successful applicant will ideally:
  • facilitate consultation and collaborative processes between school systems/sector, schools and other stakeholder organisations to share ideas and devise common approaches on the implementation of the Authority’s policies and procedures;
  • manage contract writers and associated physical resources, if required, in a manner which meets legislated requirements and provides executive support for advisory committees as required;
  • provide high-level advice, correspondence and briefings to the Minister, the Board, the Executive Director, and school systems / sector as required; and
  • develop and implement moderation processes for the secondary years of schooling and organise, facilitate and coordinate seminars, school visits and information sessions for staff from schools, regions, professional associations, systems and sectors as required.
The successful applicant will ideally have sound organisational skills, with attention to detail, accuracy and timelines.

Your written application will be assessed against the following Selection Criteria: * Demonstrated high-level knowledge of Curriculum and Assessment in the context of the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, the WACE, ATAR course examinations, performance monitoring and review.
  • Demonstrated high-order conceptual and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration and negotiation.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check if required
  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
