We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Digital Product Architect - Employees & Our Business at our Perth Office on a Permanent Full-Time basis working in the Digital Products Function.


About this role

This position provides significant technology and innovation thought leadership and direction for Western Power, leading the development and currency of Product architecture and architecting technology roadmaps to ensure alignment with Western Power's business objectives.

The role is accountable for ensuring Western Power's Employees and Our Business Product lines leverages data and technology to achieve the business strategy and maximise return on investment in technology.

The key responsibilities for which this position is accountable are to:

  • Influence and guide senior management within Technology and Innovation and the business, on the application of technology, to achieve Western Power's business strategy and objectives
  • Drive the definition of Product architecture and technology opportunities within the organisation and provide leadership and guidance to promote the development and exploitation of technical knowledge in the organisation
  • Drive Enterprise Architecture practices across the Digital Products Function as a key contributor to the architecture community, focussed on the Employees and Our Business domains. Coordinate dependencies, maximise shared capabilities, and escalate architecture decisions required to ensure alignment with Western Power's technology strategies
  • Develop and manage well-articulated, multi-year technology Product roadmaps, working closely with the Product Owner, business teams and Product team, through engagement with external service providers and internal stakeholders, as required, relevant to the enterprise architecture domain
  • Drive overall compliance with architecture governance, processes, policies, standards, and guidelines
  • Provide oversight on the delivery of technology services by external service providers
  • Manage appropriate levels of controlled innovation from external service providers, assuring the realisation of benefits and balancing risks
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with peers in the business, external providers and the broader industry
  • Work with the Architecture Guild across the Western Power Technology and Innovation business unit
  • Use broad understanding of architecture domains (business, information, application, technology, etc.) and application of business concepts from those domains to drive strategic decisions that meet the priorities of the business, whilst respecting the enterprise architecture principles and guardrails
  • Lead Product Stream distributed architecture decision making through regular consultation with solution architects and product delivery teams, identifying architecture decisions to be made and providing guidance on interpreting the reference architecture
  • Manage the Product Architecture Runway to identify needed capabilities and features that enable; inclusion, development and implementation of enterprise and product specific architectural enablers
  • Drive Enterprise Architecture practices across Products by; coordinating dependencies, maximising shared capabilities, and escalating architecture decisions required to ensure alignment with Product and Digital Capability strategies.

About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Systems Analysis, Engineering or a related study, or equivalent significant, broad, and deep industry experience
  • Comprehensive, accumulative and broad IT experience, with significant demonstrable technical leadership experience as Business Enterprise Architect or Solution Architect with a proven track record of playing a prominent role in establishing or transforming the enterprise architecture of a large energy organisation
  • Very strong conceptual, strategic thinking, problem solving, technical, and analytical skills and a thought leader in technology platforms, business process re-engineering and distributed architectures
  • A mature perspective on architecture and its role in a dynamic company with knowledge of all components of the enterprise information architecture and process, including practice in prototyping architectural patterns
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation
  • Ability to mentor and guide others
  • Ability to translate business needs into requirements for technology architecture.
  • In depth understanding of a distribution and / or transmission network service provider's operations and information flows, including Asset Management, Field Operations, Customer Management and Corporate functions
  • Superior organisational and prioritisation skills
  • A mature perspective on architecture and its role in a dynamic company with knowledge of all components of the enterprise information architecture and process
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation
  • Ability to translate business needs into requirements for technology architecture
