Location - Parramatta, Hybrid Working (mixture of in the office and from home)
Temporary Full time up to 31st March 2025
Clerk Grade 11/12 roles Salary - $139,787 - $161,663 pa, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role
As a principal analyst in Financial and Economic Unit under Finance & Procurement in DCJ, you will be responsible to lead complex research, data mining, cloud database management to support modelling and analysis to assess activities and potential reforms across the justice and social welfare system. The role is responsible for supporting decision-makers in estimating costs and benefits, considering alternative scenarios and optimising the use of resources.
What you'll do
As part of the Financial and Economic Analysis unit within Finance and Procurement Services division, the principal analyst will:
• Manage the delivery of major data analytic project/s, to support and contribute to the achievement of key Department and Government priorities.
• Oversee the migration of the team's data onto Google Cloud Platform and establish an automated process to produce regular reports, ensuring designs meet business needs.
• Provide technical leadership in financial and economic analysis and provide training in the design and operation of data mining parser in Python environment, ensuring that it can be operated and extended in the future, with documentation produced to ensure retention of knowledge.
• Find opportunities to improve efficiency in current modelling and upskill the team in their use and knowledge of other tools available.
• Engage with business owners, finance and data experts across the Stronger Communities cluster and beyond to understand data limitations, remove data barriers and improve data quality.
• Provide timely advice on issues and strategic risks that arise throughout the project to the Director, Financial and Economic Analysis.
• Present and communicate the methodology and results to senior and non-technical audiences to build their understanding and confidence in applying it to decision-making.
Financial and Economic Analysis unit provides expert advice to enhance proposals, business cases and internal decision processes by the developing financial and economic models, generating insights, evaluating Justice Impact Assessments and addressing ad-hoc requests. You will be able to work in a diverse, inclusive team who embody the values of DCJ.
What we're looking for
The ideal candidate will also display the following characteristics and experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Economics, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent experience in modelling, financial/economic or business analysis.
- Advanced skills in Python, SQL, Excel and Power Query.
- Advanced problem-solving skills.
- Ability to present with credibility, engage diverse audiences and translate technical and complex information clearly and concisely for diverse audiences.
