Our client is clean energy development company focused on delivering projects that support Australia’s energy transition. We are working to modernise the electricity grid and enabling increased renewable energy penetration and stability of the network.

Our client is a young company (founded 2019) with a growing, dynamic team that has a number of utility-scale battery storage projects under development around Australia. The company has matured from managing a single project to running multiple projects in parallel whilst constantly working on growth opportunities.

The team have a strong track record of developing clean energy projects and bringing them to market. The current team is made up of developers, planners and engineers. We offer an exciting role for a like-minded individual who can create an organised platform for our growth.

The Role

Due to their growth, our client has engaged us to recruit a Principal Power Systems Engineer to provide technical support to the project development team throughout the development cycle with a particular focus on grid connection, technical problem solving and items pertaining to concept design and procurement. The role would suit a dynamic and enterprising individual who is interested in working as part of a development team that brings energy storage projects to reality in the NEM.

Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, you will be:

• Assisting the project development team with assessing sites from a technical perspective including determining potential size, availability of existing project supporting infrastructure, grid capability and technical constraints;
• Engineering assessments to optimise connection characteristics including but not limited to connection voltages, substation design, etc;
• Reviewing grid studies and managing submissions with NSPs through to Offer to Connect
• Supporting commissioning activities as projects finalise construction
• Undertaking or leading the preparation of concept design that will inform planning and grid connection studies;
• Providing technical support to the commercial team in helping them understand costs and the impacts of commercial decisions;
• Supporting development and tracking of budgets, timelines and resourcing;
• Sourcing information for provision to specialist planning consultants and reviewing their work to confirm that it is prepared in line with the anticipated construction and operation of the project;
• Providing technical support to the planning team;
• Supporting procurement processes including the development of documentation for OEM and contractor selection;
• Liaising with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Contractors, Network Service Providers and AEMO as needed;
• Managing consultants and contractors to deliver work packages;
• Contributing to a highly motivated work culture that fosters innovation and builds upon a reputation of delivering quality projects to market;
• Contributing to the development of sound business processes and systems for effective project delivery.

The Requirements:

In order to be successful for this role you will need:

• A Degree in Electrical Engineering will be highly regarded
• Around 10 years’ experience working in Electricity or Power Sector
• Knowledge of the electricity distribution and transmission industry including renewable energy
• Highly effective communication skills to liaise with internal and external customers and sound negotiation and influencing skills
