Job description

Procurement & Facilities Services Branch has 3 x Temporary Full-Time Principal Procurement Officer roles, within the General Goods and Services sourcing team. As Principal Procurement Officer, you will be a part of a team that works closely with key stakeholders to deliver high quality procurement services to the Department. You will have a good knowledge of tendering and contract management processes and will be expected to lead sourcing processes for key internal customers across the Department.

Your Role:

Reporting to the Director, Procurement Services, GGS the role is expected to;

  • Exercise a procurement delegation, contributing to sourcing processes, including, development of documentation detailing the department's requirements and invitation documentation, managing risk, engagement with the marketplace, evaluation of offers and negotiation of contracts.
  • Implement and promote best practice procurement management systems, strategies and procedures within the category that meets business needs, delivers economy and efficiency and ensures consistency.
  • Maintain a detailed documentary record of procurement processes and decisions ensuring the audit trail is adequately maintained and documented for probity, accountability and audit purposes.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with a network of key stakeholders across the department and government and represent the department in dealings with other agencies and whole of government forums relating to the procurement function.
  • In conjunction with key stakeholders, contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate procurement strategies, including the development of plans for significant procurement.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement agendas through provision of guidance and on the job training for unit staff.
  • Research and prepare submissions, reports, briefing materials and correspondence and provide analysis and advice to branch management and key stakeholders on matters relating to the procurement function.
  • Maintain a good knowledge of contemporary procurement strategies, policies and practices and an awareness of government priorities and initiatives that have implications for the procurement function.

About You:

An ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in procurement (sourcing) in a government context.
