The Principal Risk and Assurance will work at the Western Hub, reporting to the Western Hub Manager Health & Safety. This role will support the General Managers and their teams across the Western Hub with ongoing identification and support of their material risk registers and the retrospective risk owner. In addition, to support team development, the Principal Risk and Assurance role will encompass both team leader and individual contributor responsibilities, as assigned.

The Principal Risk and Assurance is a key contributor in the function’s delivery of major hazard program, material risk and assurance services to the Western Hub and will work closely with the risk owners with support from the Group Risk, Assurance and Insurance, and the Corporate Health, Safety Risk Teams.

The role will be supporting the development and delivery of risk-based, value-adding internal audit plans; analysing business processes to identify key risks and evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of related internal controls; evaluating the effectiveness of critical controls over material risks; and identifying opportunities that contribute to sustainable improvements in governance, risk management and internal controls or business productivity.

The role may contribute, from time to time, on business conduct investigations, risk assessments or business improvement initiatives.

The Principal Risk and Assurance must have the experience and confidence to challenge the status quo, the poise to engage with senior leaders and the relationship-building skills to partner with diverse teams to deliver innovative solutions across the business in a fast paced and rapidly changing business environment.

• 5+ years’ experience in the mining and resources sector
• Experience in leading and developing a risk-based internal audit and assurance program.
• Demonstrate capability in:
  • Risk management;
  • Process mapping/ flow charting;
  • Audit testing and analysis; and
  • Executive report writing and presentations.
• Advising on and/or assessing the effectiveness of controls for complex material risks (strategic, operational, financial, safety, compliance) and associated risk performance indicators; risk appetites; and business continuity plans.
• Working across diverse business and operational processes to quickly develop a credible understanding of relevant business imperatives, risks and controls to deliver insightful risk and assurance services.
• Sound knowledge of safety and training requirements in the mining industry.
• Level of competence in understanding of the statutory requirements and regulations in Western Australia.
• Safety in design engineering experience
• Experience with definition and application of control measures and performance standards.
• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering related fields or equivalent.
• Lead or Internal Auditor (preferred).
• ICAM Lead investigator; or equivalent.
• Previous experience in Bow Tie analysis preferable.
