Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system.
The organisation will drive delivery of world-class pumped hydro assets to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland’s clean energy future. The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets of 70% renewables by 2032, 80% by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.
About the role
The Stakeholder Engagement, Communications and Environment Division is accountable for ensuring broad stakeholder support for Queensland Hydro and its projects, and for delivering all approvals, agreements and other consents that are required to deliver the projects.
The Principal Strategy Advisor will provide professional support to the Executive General Manager (EGM) Stakeholder Engagement, Communications and Environment. As a member of the Division’s leadership team, you will:
- Support the EGM to be fully informed about the status of the Division’s priorities and deliverables.
- Identify emerging issues including stakeholder issues and at-risk priorities and deliverables, including the potential causes and recommended actions to address these risks.
- Provide strategic advice on risk identification and assessment and in the evaluation of best practice strategies.
- Manage positive relationships with clients and stakeholders on difficult and complex issues.
- Exercise judgement and influence working across Queensland Hydro to effectively coordinate the management of client requirements and team priorities, ensuring the Division’s priorities and deliverables are met.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships and encourage sharing of information and collaboration across Queensland Hydro to ensure the Division is providing timely and effective support to the other teams that rely on our expertise, services and support.
- Continuously monitor, and seek evidence to confirm, the status of priorities and deliverables.
- If necessary, escalate issues to the EGM and other Queensland Hydro leaders with recommended remedial actions.
- Ensure agreed remedial actions are taken.
- Otherwise support the EGM and Division’s leadership team to ensure timely execution of priorities and deliverables.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree qualification and/or demonstrated experience in law, environmental approvals or regulation, property development, stakeholder engagement, social science, sustainability or communications will be highly regarded.
Knowledge and Skills
- Sound (or higher) understanding of major project delivery.
- Experience in leading strategically including working with the team to organise work priorities so they deliver on broader organisational commitments.
- Ability to prepare expert advice that is strategic, practical, and solutions-oriented.
- Attention to detail and foresight in identifying and managing risks.
- Demonstrated experience in building and sustaining productive, working relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ability to think strategically and advanced problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and team skills, including the ability to work productively with employees and contractors at all levels.
- Passionate about Queensland Hydro’s business performance and acting with care to ensure the best possible stakeholder experience for our communities.
