About the team The Process Engineering team is part of the Quality Assurance business unit in the City of Gold Coast’s (City) Infrastructure Lifecycle, Planning and Performance department. The team’s focus is on providing infrastructure quality assurance for all customer and community facing infrastructure classes.
This includes drinking and recycled water safety, and compliance and process optimisation of the sewage treatment plants. We are high-performing, innovative and a driven team who value each other’s skills, knowledge and experience to support and benefit the operation and performance of the City's sewage treatment plants. The Process Engineering team will also play a vital role in shaping the outcome of multiple sewage treatment plant capacity upgrades, through a programme of works spanning the next 10 years.
About the position The Process Engineer's role is to support the business to optimise processes at the City's four sewage treatment plants (STP). Process Engineers carry out formalized assessments of STP processes to determine the capacity of infrastructure and investigate areas not meeting expected performance, to help ensure compliance with environmental approvals. The team also carries out technical investigations and trials to ensure cost efficient operation (including reducing expenditure on energy, chemicals and biosolids management, where possible), and provides support to operations staff to trouble-shoot problems, as required.

You You hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science with environmental or chemical applications, or equivalent experience and knowledge of, and experience with, sewage and recycled water treatment plant processes. Experience in carrying out research and technical investigations to optimise sewage treatment plants.
Capacity to identify significant issues in a regulatory environment, including knowledge of relevant legislation. Ability to prioritise problems, gather and analyse information to identify symptoms and causes. High level of interpersonal skills, including effective communication skills.
